Daytime acting legend, Anthony Geary, who has been on the hit soap opera, General Hospital for 38 years, has filmed his last scene. Today was Anthony Geary’s last day of filming for General Hospital for an episode that won’t air until the end of the summer.
Geary, who took some time off from the soap following back surgery, returned briefly only to break the news he was leaving General Hospital for good.
For Geary’s last episode some of his favorite co-stars and former co-stars who showed up to say good bye. Actors such as Kin Shriner, Finola Hughes, Kristina Wagner, Leslie Charleson, Lynn Herring and his former wife on the show, Genie Francis were all on set for the tearful good bye.
Geary had a special farewell with a video montage of some of his best scenes, in addition to farewell messages from other ABC daytime stars including Whoopi Goldberg and the cast of The Chew.
One thing Anthony Geary won’t miss is seeing the scene that put him on the map to stardom – the wedding of Luke and Laura. The wedding that was seen by more than 30 million people. And probably another 30 million people since then.
Geary even said, “It was 33 years ago, people. For Christ’s sake, let it go.”
What’s next for the 68 year old actor? Geary told EW,
“I’m excited to raise the curtain on act 3, to reinvent myself in my new home to pursue whatever opportunity there may be. It’s an exciting prospect to me. They’ve done a wonderful job of wrapping up the character. So this seems like the ideal time to go.”
Sorry Tony – but it is never the perfect time to say good bye to Luke Spencer. His character and charming personality on the show (most of the time anyway), will be greatly missed.
