In light of the sexual abuse allegations against Josh Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting, the show has officially been cancelled by TLC.
In a statement the network said,
“After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting. The show will no longer appear on the air.
The recent attention around the Duggars has sparked a critical and important conversation about child protection.”
In conjunction with leading victims’ rights and advocacy organizations in the U.S., RAINN and Darkness to Light, TLC will be airing a one-hour documentary with the Duggar family that will include Jill and Jessa and other survivors and families that have been affected by abuse.
The network is hoping to use the moment to address the issue and make a positive impact. TLC is partnering with RAINN and Darkness to Light to raise awareness and educate parents and families about the issue.
TLC expressed their concern for the victims in this situation, including the Duggar family, and is hopeful that the show will help those in need learn where to turn for information and help.
To prove the dedication to the cause, the documentary will be commercial free and the show will air later this summer.
Josh Duggar admitted to sexually abusing five underage children when he was 15 years of age. Since he made the admission, 19 and Counting has come under fire. His parents tried to defend him and diffuse the situation without any success. Even the victims, Jill and Jessa have spoken out about the incident and have forgiven Josh. Unfortunately, Josh Duggar has lost everything. He resigned from his job and his family has lost their sole source of income because of how it was handled.
What do you think about the show being canceled. Will you miss 19 Kids and Counting? Or do you think the Duggars deserved to have the show cancelled.
